Mee Suah - The Beginning...

4 wonderful new friends, 1st great collaborative exhibition on creative artworks using yarns & other strips of materials. Like-minders, Ayako (something magickal), Betsy (knotty bicsie) , Cindy (monster poms) & Elaine (saltplay), who came from different walks of life, met at MAAD, make, sell, joke, laugh, chill out, and got strung together by Mee Suah.

It is a tradition for Hokkiens to eat Mee Suah at all important celebrative occasions such as birthdays, weddings, and Lunar New Year. Hence, Mee Suah, to us, signifies the love and bond among people.

Yarns is... ...

Ayako -

Yarns for me symbolized the umbilical cords of life, of each being, the weavings of each life's journey into different places,different emotions,different feelings and locations. For each and everone of my creations, you will get to see the wonderful happy feel of this journey, the cords of life, the weaving of love,the creation of something magickal.

There will be paintings / medicine bags / pendents all handmade by ayako with the gifts of mother's earth not excluding lots of TLC !

Betsy -

I am a lucky daughter. I've always been embraced by Mum's love, both literally and metaphorically. She always knit and crochet clothes, toys, bags and accessories for my sis and I. And when we outgrow the clothes she made for us, we pass them down to our cousins. Often, I wish I have kept all of them, for my cousins have not kept Mum's beautiful works...

2nd half of 2006 was a trying peroid for me. I seek refuge back at Mum's, where she encouraged me to take up knitting SERIOUSLY. The repetitive process of creating beautiful things out of just strips of materials turns out extremely therapeutic for me! I can't stop ever since.

Just a continuous strip of yarn, needles, you and me... "possessed by God of Knits" (Rage @MAAD, 8th April 2007), we create a whole new world, which we treasure and understand - The colourful labryinth constructed with our love, patience, sincerity, ... and our bond.

Cindy -

I was influenced by this bunch of good friends whom i met at MAAD Sunday. Although there's age gap between us, but we shared the common interest, same mindset, same concept of being ORIGINAL.

From MAAD to OUR small gatherings...

All of us are linked up with some chemistry sparkle in each and everyone of us.. We cherish each other, and wanted to be there for each other no matter what happens.. That's what true friendships are..

MEE SUAH is like a "yin yuan xian" but "yin yuan xian" is actually this LOVE string tied onto the legs of (that you cant from naked eyes) the meant to be couples to be together forever.

Therefore, MEE SUAH is like a "you yi xian". A strong and elastic FRIENDSHIP string tied onto the legs of us. Ayako.Betsy.Cindy.Elaine all together.

Elaine -

To me, yarns is a very special kind of material that will not only keep us warm but will also warm our hearts. Is like the bond of our friendships, initially is just a few different types and colors of yarns get together, crochet, knitting, tying, twirling, pulling,......slowly our relationships start to form up into a beautiful piece of colorful artwork. Sometimes it will gets looser, sometimes it will gets tighten, no matter under what circumstances it will definitely grow bigger and bigger each day....... come and see my creations and feel the warm..... :)
